Zen Dog Spotlight: Winston

This week our Zen Dog Spotlight features the sweet, speedy and smart one of a kind mix, Winston! Our team member Tristan, loves his first morning walks with this charming little fellow. Winston has been featured on our Instagram, @dogzenergy, and did we mention he's great in videos! It's all yours Winston!

State your full name and let us know a bit about your background.

"Winston Brooks. My parents adopted me about 4.5 years ago when I was a little guy. They thought that I was going to be a lab mix, but I am only 30 lbs. Nobody knows for sure what type of dog I am, but I sure am cute and smart."

What’s your favorite toy and why?

"Shoes are my favorite toys. I like them because they smell like my mom or dad."

What does your typical day consist of, and what would your ideal day include?

"I usually go on a morning walk with Tristan from DogZenergy. I love going on walks with Tristan, and after my walk, I like to take a nap in front of the door, catching some rays through the window and guarding the house. I follow my little brother and sister around when they are eating snacks, and I love to cuddle with mom or dad at the end of a long day. My ideal day is spent at the beach with my family, chasing balls and running in the waves."

Who is your best friend and how did you meet?

"My dad is my best friend. I met him on the day that he adopted me, and I love him more and more each day."

What is the one question you wish your human would stop asking you, and the one question you wish your human would never stop asking you?

"I wish my mom would stop asking me to let her clip my toes or brush my teeth. I wish mom and dad would never stop asking me whether I want a treat. Yes, please!"

If you were going to win an award at the "Oscar Pet Awards" would you want to win it for 1.) Cuteness 2.) Heroism/Courage3.) Sassiness 4) Loyalty 5) Fashionista. Give us a quick example/story of why we should pick you!

"Can I add a category or two? I would win for my smarts and my speed. I have figured out how to open many doors. I get on my hind legs, and push the handle just so until I can get it to open. I’m also the fastest dog at the park throw that ball and watch me go."

Any other insight you would like us to know?

"I am pretty scared of new people, especially ones who come to my house, but even if I bark initially, I am a big softy once I get to know you."

What’s your favorite toy and why?

"I like to tear my toys to pieces so my favorite toy is always changing. Right nowI am loving my 3 squeaky bears from Costco."

What does your typical day consist of, and what would your ideal day include?

"On typical days, I get morning and evening walks with my pet parents and spend the rest of the day inside with my cat brother, Sanchito. My favorite part of the day is my long afternoon walk with Tristan from DogZenergy"

"My ideal day would be spent outside playing in the snow followed by a long evening nap on the couch next to my pet parents."

Who is your best friend and how did you meet?

"My best friend is Reggie, the big brown lab who lives across the driveway. I just love him so much, I would run across the street in front of cars to say hello if I was not on my leash."

What is the one question you wish your human would stop asking you, and the one question you wish your human would never stop asking you?

"Please stop asking me to sit and stay. Never stop asking if I want to go for a walk or have a cookie."

If you were going to win an award at the "Oscar Pet Awards" would you want to win it for 1.) Cuteness 2.) Heroism/Courage 3.) Sassiness 4) Loyalty 5) Fashionista. Give us a quickexample/story of why we should pick you!

"I think I would have a good shot at the Cuteness Award. Although I am 6 years old, Istill think I am a puppy. I like to be held like a baby and sometimes I try to climb up on my pet parents' laps while they are eating dinner."

Any other insight you would like us to know?

"My special talent is skijoring: I pull my pet dad through the snow while he is on crosscountry skis."

Zen Dog Spotlight: Sloany

Happy Thursday, and welcome to a new Zen Dog Spotlight with adorable and sweet lab mix Sloany! She is absolutely a little love and brings a smile to everyone who meets her. Sloany always enjoys her walks with our DogZenergy team members, and the feeling is mutual. She is such a good girl, always ready for her next adventure and did we mention how photogenic she is! Sloany the floor is all your!

State your full name and let us know a bit about your background.

"My name is Sloany Pittman, I am 8 years old and I am from West Lafayette, IN. I am a black lab mixed with a lot of other dogs, but the vet thinks I am primarily mixed with grey hound. I moved here with my mom and dad almost 3 years ago and one of my favorite parts about living here is being able to dig in the sand at the dog beach!"

What’s your favorite toy and why?

"My favorite toy changes with which ever toy is newest and squeakiest. Right now my favorite toy is my red giraffe that my mom and dad bought me after I had my knee surgery in February."

What does your typical day consist of, and what would your ideal day include?

"Every morning I wake up and the first thing I think about is a Greenie. I guess it's a treat that is supposed to be good for my teeth, but I just think it's delicious. Sometimes if my mom and dad sleep in, I have to stare at them really close in the face until they open their eyes and then I can remind them that it's time for my Greenie. Then I get my breakfast and get a short walk outside with my mom, or sometimes dad. Usually mom and dad have to go to work and it makes me sad because I would love to spend all day with them. Thankfully the girls from DogZenergy come to hang out with me and take me on walks and give me tons of belly rubs, so days that mom and dad work aren't so bad."

Who is your best friend and how did you meet?

"Well I don't want to hurt any feelings, so I will say my best friends are my mom and dad...but it's actually my mom. We met when she was at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. She came in to the shelter where I was living with my brothers and sisters for a couple of months. I gave her my best doe eyed look and she didn't stand a chance. I went home with her that day. Mom and I met dad about a year later and I was a little shy at first, but now he's one of my favorite humans."

What is the one question you wish your human would stop asking you, and the one question you wish your human would never stop asking you?

"I never want my human to stop asking me if I want to go on a walk. I live for my walks outside with my humans. I really wish my mom would stop asking if I'm ready to go to the vet, though because no, mom. I am never ready to go to the vet."

If you were going to win an award at the "Oscar Pet Awards" would you want to win it for  1.) Cuteness 2.) Heroism/Courage 3.) Sassiness 4) Loyalty 5) Fashionista.  Give us a quick example/story of why we should pick you!

"I would definitely win the award for sassiness. For example, whenever I am getting belly rubs and the human gets tired and stops, I just have to shoot them a look to let the human know that the belly rub is not over and then the human will keep going. Also, I let mom and dad sleep in my bed with me because I love them, but I definitely let them know that I need my room."

Any other insight you would like us to know?

"I am very thankful for the girls that help take care of me at DogZenergy. They always treat me like the princess I am and let my parents know how I'm doing while they're at work. I know my mom and dad are thankful to them as well especially with mom's busy job as a registered nurse and dad's busy job being a Marine Corps pilot. I am sure my mom is especially thankful to Karen for putting up with all of her last minute scheduling changes. :)"

A big thanks to Soany and her mama Courtney for participating in this week's Zen Dog Spotlight!

Zen Dog Spotlight: Evey

We are very excited to introduce you to another one of our DogZenergy team member's fantastic furry friend, Evey! Jamie and Evey came to us from Georgia in the fall of 2015, and we absolutely adore both of them. They are truly the best of friends. Evey was featured in La Jolla Christmas Parade 2015 as an adorable reindeer. She is one of the most well behaved siberian husky's we have ever met, and of course loves to run and play when she's not listening to her mama. The stage is yours Evey!

State your full name and let us know a bit about yourbackground.

"Evey Hardegree. I was born in Augusta, GA (I’m a sourthen girl) on Oct. 22nd 2009. My hooman, Jamie, picked me as her Christmas gift and I knew from the start I had her wrapped around my paw."

What’s your favorite toy and why?

"My favorite toy is a little blue monster my hooman bought me on halloween last year.  I don’t chew on it, I like to carry it around and make sure nothing happens to Herman. (that’s what I named it) I like Herman because he squeaks and I guess you could say my hooman was nice enough to buy him for me."

What does your typical day consist of, and what would your ideal day include?

"On a typical day I nap on my hoomans bed for a few hours then I get up and sniff the other hooman’s door to try and talk to the cat we have. Then I get a drink of water and sun bath by the sliding door for a few more hours. Once my hooman gets home she is my ride to the dog park. My ideal day would include me and the cat we own napping on the couch but she’s still a little timid."

Who is your best friend and how did you meet?

My best friend would be another husky named Emmie, she’s all white and a little younger than me but it’s ok because she knows I’m in charge of playing when we’re hanging out. We first met at the La Jolla Christmas Parade last year she was wearing the same outfit as me (the nerve of her, but once I got to know her it was ok) at least I wasn’t the only reindeer."

What is the one question you wish your human would stopasking you, and the one question you wish your human would never stop asking you?

"I wish my hooman would quit asking me “Why can’t you play fetch like the other dogs?” My reply (if only she spoke husky) is because I don’t Ma so stop asking. The question she should never stop asking is ‘are you ready to eat?” Of course I’m always ready for food."

If you were going to win an award at the "Oscar Pet Awards" would you want to win it for  1.) Cuteness 2.) Heroism/Courage 3.) Sassiness 4) Loyalty 5) Fashionista.  Give us a quick example/story of why we should pick you!

"Oh this is easy it would be for sassiness... obviously."

Any other insight you would like us to know?

"My hooman and I were both born in October and we both have blue eyes, but of course mine are prettier. If you’ll excuse me I have to go back to sun bathing.  wooo woooo woooo!"

Thank you to Evey and her hooman, DogZenergy team member Jamie for participating in this week's Zen Dog Spotlight!
